Base fee:
  • Open to everyone for morning sessions.
  • Open to veterans can come and watch for free
  • Private 45-60 minute lesson with Sterling Graburn in your turnout. All proceeds go to Blackhorse 4 Heroes.

Blackhorse 4 Heroes is proud to announce guest trainer Sterling Graburn.

Open to the public, this is your chance train with one of the best in the world.  


Sterling will be training veterans participating in Team Blackhorse, a veteran neutral initiative to provide veterans a means to help each other.   Veterans with and without disability (veteran neutral) are invited to work with horses and train for the exciting sport of combined driving. Sunday afternoon from 1PM to 5PM.  He will also provide private lessons for $95 in the morning from 8AM to noon.  The proceeds of which will all go to Blackhorse 4 Heroes.

  • If you wish to have a private lesson or training session, in hand, harness or in saddle, please register for the morning sessions and request a slot from 8AM to 11AM. 
  • If you wish to train with Team Blackhorse, please register for the afternoon session, 1PM to 5PM.

Sterling, a veteran of the US Navy, competes in both Pleasure and Combined Driving, with singles, pairs, tandems, unicorns, and four-in-hands. Sterling currently trains at Sweet Dreams Farm in Cynthiana, KY, Specializing in teaching horses and their people to ride and drive.  Learn more at http://www.teamsterlingdriving.com/


 

More about Team Blackhorse.

Team Blackhorse is our 2013 initiative to expand on the Blackhorse Method and is designed to encourage veterans to participate in peer to peer activities.  The objective is to recruit veterans of all branches and any service, combat and non-combat, disabled or able bodied, it does not matter.  Those who are struggling need the encouragement of those who are not, in the comfort of a veteran support group.

 

Veterans will be given training in the following area's

Grooming      - Basic horse handling, cleaning of hooves, brushing, and general care of the animal. 

Navigating     – Identify harness parts, properly harness a horse, carriage care, putting to, navigating skills, and negotiating hazards.

Driver           – Responsible for the horse and team.  Drive at the CAA level 1 standards. 

 

Instructors – Responsible for the supervision of veterans within the program, and ensure all required standards and safety measures are in compliance.
